BLOG: Zombie Marketing for Accountants and Bookkeepers

If you’re driving along and see a Zombie, you notice. I certainly did last weekend. Zombies stand out.

BLOG: Zombie Marketing for Accountants and Bookkeepers

As an accountant or bookkeeper, it’s important to be able to differentiate your firm from those around you. It’s not easy to stand out from the crowd. How do you gain that Zombie advantage so potential clients stand up and take notice?

1. Regular blog post

Zombies are topical. A few firms we know create topical content and communicate business initiatives very well indeed, and it pays off for them in many ways. A regular blog post on your website lets your own clients know what’s happening within your firm or the wider industry, helps you reach out to a wider online potential client base, and gives you an opportunity to build and contribute to an online community as you showcase your industry knowledge and expertise. It’s also great for SEO for your website if you’re creating quality content regularly.

Most of the accountants or bookeepers we talk with are considering writing a regular update, but haven’t quite got around to it yet. Xero have developed this   Blogging tips for accountants and bookkeepers online guide to help you get underway.

2. Don’t be shy, run events

Ever seen a shy Zombie? They really don’t care what others think. Even if you’re not totally confident you have all the answers, getting yourself out there gives you the opportunity to engage and talk with potential clients you may be able to provide solutions or support for.

Running events, perhaps starting with a webinar, gives you an interactive forum for engagement. If you’re not sure how to get started, contact an events expert like Wayne Schmidt who will drive the entire process alongside you.

3. Embrace social media

Zombies are very popular on social media. You can have the most vibrant accountancy firm or bookkeeping practice in your community, but if nobody knows about you that doesn’t really help. Most of the businesses we talk with start by creating a company page on professional networking site LinkedIn, then set up Twitter, Facebook, and other channels that reach your target market. You do need to be active regularly, and it can be a great way to expand your network. If you need assistance, Wayne Schmidt has a very helpful tips to help you master social media here.

Share the content you create to help drive traffic back to your website, and engage with the wider community. It’s a great way to promote and leverage your events too!

Finding your Zombie edge

If you stand out and give yourself an edge you create a competitive advantage. People are always looking for ideas, so be creative with how you frame your content. Making a concerted effort to put a recognisable brand out will help you grow your business.
